When will Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project be completed? Nitin Gadkari shares status update – Times of India

Delhi-Mumbai Expressway status: The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway’s completion timeline has been adjusted to October 2025, according to Nitin Gadkari, the minister of road transport and highways. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, once fully functional, will reduce the road travel time between the two cities to just 12 hours!
Gadkari told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that 1136 km out of the total 1386 km of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway have already been completed. This accounts for 82% of the work.
The Delhi-Mumbai expressway, which connects major economic hubs across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, is expected to cut the distance from Delhi to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) by approximately 180 km and reduce travel time to connected destinations by up to 50%.
In July, TOI had reported that the Gujarat portion of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project has encountered delays due to issues related to land acquisition. The construction work for two sections spanning 62 km in Gujarat was only put out for bidding in November 2023. While work on one of the packages could commence in April this year, the construction on the other stretch began in July.

As of now, approximately 630 km out of the total 1,386 km has been made accessible to traffic, albeit in different stretches, the report said.
For instance, the 293 km stretch between Sohna, Dausa, and Sawai Madhopur is now open to traffic, while another 245 km stretch between Jhalawar and the MP/Gujarat border is also operational.
Officials have expressed confidence that the first section of the country’s longest expressway, spanning 845 km from Sohna to Vadodara, will be fully open to traffic by March 2025.
Following this, other sections, including the three links to JNPT in Mumbai, Jewar Airport in Uttar Pradesh, and DND Flyway in Delhi, will also be opened to traffic.
In Rajya Sabha, Gadkari also said that the length of national highways in India has grown by 1.6 times, from 91,287 km in March 2014 to the current 1,46,126 km. Since April 2014, the government has constructed 98,021 km of national highways at a cost of Rs 14.55 lakh crore.
