1Imagine you watched a movie and thought, “Hey, that fun character is based on a real-life hero!” But then the actor says, “Nope, we didn’t even know that person when we made the film.” That’s exactly what happened recently.
Aamir Khan, a famous movie actor, said that the character Phunsukh Wangdu from the movie “3 Idiots” was not inspired by Sonam Wangchuk (a real-life inventor and education activist). This made many politicians and people upset.
At the London Indian Film Festival, someone asked Aamir Khan about this. Here is what he said, explained like a story:
Important Point: Aamir Khan did NOT say Sonam Wangchuk’s work is bad. He only said the movie character was not based on him, and he hopes Sonam stays healthy.
Some political leaders think Aamir Khan is saying this now because he is afraid of the government. They believe he should have spoken up earlier or shown more support. Here is what they said:
Sonam Wangchuk is a real person doing good work in education. Right now, he is on a hunger strike (not eating to show protest).
As of the news, he has been on strike for 20 days.
Aamir Khan said the “3 Idiots” character was not based on Sonam Wangchuk, and he respects Sonam’s work. Politicians criticized him, saying he is scared to take a stand. Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk is on a 20-day hunger strike asking for the education minister’s resignation over exam issues.
It is a popular Indian movie. One of its characters is Phunsukh Wangdu, a creative inventor. Many people thought he was based on Sonam Wangchuk.
It is a peaceful protest where a person refuses to eat until their demand is met or something changes.
NEET is a big exam in India for students who want to study medicine (to become doctors). Some say there were mistakes or cheating in it.
Because he said the movie was not based on Sonam Wangchuk many years after the film came out, and he did not strongly support Sonam’s protest. They feel he is fearing the ruling government.
Aamir Khan and others said they are concerned. A 20-day hunger strike can be very risky for the body, so people are hoping he stops and stays safe.
