TL;DR: The worlds of Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft have officially collided! A new book called D&D: World of Warcraft lets you play D&D inside Azeroth. It comes out November 17 (early access November 3) and is packed with WoW classes, races, dungeons, spells, and even a trip to Icecrown Citadel.
Imagine sitting around a table with friends, rolling dice, and telling a story together—that’s Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Now imagine that story takes place in Azeroth, the world of World of Warcraft (WoW). You can be a Tauren Paladin, a Vulpera Rogue, or a Dracthyr Evoker. You can raid Deadmines, fight Onyxia, and pledge loyalty to the Horde or the Alliance.
D&D: World of Warcraft is a massive rulebook that gives you everything you need to make that happen. It’s not a video game—it’s a tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) book compatible with the current D&D rules (5th Edition / 2024 Player’s Handbook).
| Date | What Happens |
|---|---|
| November 3 | Early access for digital pre-orders |
| November 17 | Full release (physical + digital) |
Important: Pre-ordering gets you exclusive digital goodies (dice skins, character sheet frames, a mini-adventure, and actual WoW in-game items like a Black Dragon mount and a Mimic Chest toy!). You’ll need a Battle.net account and an active WoW subscription to redeem the in-game items (not compatible with WoW Classic).
The "complete package" for most players:
For the true loot goblins:
Callout: The Collector’s Edition is a limited print run. If you want that fancy slipcase and guaranteed Murloc mini, order early!
Every WoW class gets a D&D subclass (or three!) built on the Player’s Handbook foundation.
| Type | Subclasses |
|---|---|
| 6 Brand-New Subclasses | • Oath of the Ebon Blade Paladin (Death Knight vibes!) • Oath of the Holy Paladin (Classic Holy Paladin) • Demon Hunter Ranger (Illidan style!) • Shadow Domain Cleric (Shadow Priest) • Discipline Domain Cleric (Disc Priest) • Path of the Elements Barbarian (Shaman tank/warrior feel) |
| 3 Updated Subclasses | • Swashbuckler Rogue (Outlaw) • Path of the Spiritual Guardian Barbarian (Totemic/Ancestral) • Warrior of Mystic Brews Monk (Brewmaster) |
| Bonus | 40+ Specializations to fine-tune your playstyle |
ELI5: A "subclass" is like picking a spec in WoW (e.g., Fire Mage vs. Frost Mage), but for D&D classes.
11 Brand-New to D&D:
5 Updated Classic Races: Dwarf, Elf, Goblin, Human, Orc
Cool Mechanic: Your species can give you a starting Renown Score with a faction—so your Tauren starts friendly with the Horde, your Draenei with the Alliance!
