There is an Air Quality Alert for all of Ohio. This means the air is not as clean as usual because smoke from wildfires in Canada is floating over the state.
Here is what the weather will look like:
For the rest of this evening, it will stay warm and a little sticky (muggy). A few isolated storms might pop up. The sky will look hazy because the Canadian wildfire smoke is still hanging around overhead. This can make it harder to see far away and can make the air unhealthy for people who are sensitive (like those with breathing problems). Temperatures will slowly drop from the 80s this evening down to the lower 70s overnight.
The smoke may still cause hazy skies early on Saturday, but it should be much better than today. Saturday will be another hot and humid day, with highs near 90°F. The morning and early afternoon should stay dry, but later in the day scattered thunderstorms are expected to form.
Important: A few of those storms could become severe. The main dangers are:
- Damaging winds
- Heavy rain
- Localized flash flooding (sudden flooding in one area)
Overnight into Saturday morning, temperatures will only fall to the lower 70s under mostly cloudy skies, and the air quality may still be poor—especially for people with asthma or other breathing issues.
If you have outdoor plans Saturday afternoon or evening, here is what to do:
The good news? Those storms should help push some of the wildfire smoke out of the area, improving the air quality.
By Sunday, drier air will move in behind a cold front (a line of cooler air that pushes out warm air). You can expect lots of sunshine with highs in the low-to-mid 80s. Sunday looks like the nicest day of the weekend and a great time to be outdoors.
Another cold front arrives on Tuesday. This brings another round of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could again bring heavy rain and gusty winds. After that, cooler air moves in and gives us below-average temperatures for the rest of the workweek.
Q1: What does an Air Quality Alert mean?
It means the air has more pollution or smoke than normal, so it can be unhealthy—especially for kids, older adults, and people with asthma.
Q2: Why is it hazy outside?
Smoke from wildfires in Canada is drifting over Ohio and making the sky look cloudy and dirty.
Q3: Will the storms on Saturday be dangerous?
Some could be. The biggest threats are strong winds, heavy rain, and quick flooding in spots.
Q4: When is the best time to go outside this weekend?
Sunday is the nicest and safest day, with cleaner air and sunshine.
Have a great weekend!
