LeBron James is one of the biggest basketball stars in the world. Right now, he has to decide which team he will play for next. This is called free agency (when a player can choose a new team). He has been at a big fan event called Fanatics Fest in New York, and he had four public appearances scheduled over two days.
But here is the funny part: he has not told anyone his decision yet!
On Friday, LeBron finished the fourth of his four planned public appearances at Fanatics Fest.
Just like other friends did earlier, Steelo Brim asked LeBron to share his choice with the crowd of about 5,000 people.
The crowd groaned and booed a little, but Travis Bennett said:
"The whole world is waiting on this. They’re waiting to schedule the games."
NBA commissioner Adam Silver (the boss of the NBA) also spoke at Fanatics Fest on Thursday.
Important Point: LeBron’s team choice changes which games are shown on TV and when big games like Christmas Day happen!
Multiple people who know LeBron say he is very close to deciding. Many hope he announces next week.
LeBron did not tell his secret, but he joked around like he did at his other appearances.
When asked what he thinks about when choosing:
When he said "trust the process," Philadelphia 76ers fans cheered, but fans of other teams booed.
LeBron said the NBA had eight different champions in the past eight seasons.
LeBron is 41 years old and has played a record 23 seasons. But he hints he will play more than one more year.
He spoke about the 2026–27 season like it will happen for him.
On retirement talk, he said:
LeBron James appeared at Fanatics Fest four times but kept his next-team decision a secret. The NBA boss and fans are waiting because his choice shapes the schedule. LeBron joked with the crowd, said he wants to compete and "trust the process," and made clear he is not done playing basketball yet. A decision may come next week.
1. What is free agency?
Free agency is when a player’s contract ends and they get to pick which team to join next.
2. Why does LeBron’s decision affect the NBA schedule?
Because TV networks and teams want to plan games around where LeBron plays, especially big days like opening week and Christmas.
3. Is LeBron retiring after this season?
No. He talks about next season like he will play, and says he still loves the game and wants to keep going.
4. What did LeBron mean by "trust the process"?
It is a phrase about believing in slow improvement. A Philadelphia team used it before, but LeBron says he used it since 2003.
5. When might LeBron announce his team?
People close to him say he is close to deciding, and many hope he says something next week.
